Corrupted Disk

Okay, how many of you still use floppy disks? Come on, I know you're out there, come out from behind the door and fess up. I know I can't be the only one!

Alright then, I'll speak only for myself, I use a floppy disk when blogging. It's large enough to store my .rtf files, convenient when working on location and easy to transfer to my home computer. I've tried emailing the entries to myself and have had them lost to the giant bit bucket more than five occasions.

Last night when it was time to upload my entry - poof! - drive A: was unreadable. The only option offered: format the disk. I had at least three blog entries on the darn thing, so there's no way I was formatting the disk!

I searched and found PCI Recovery Disk and much to my elation, after some trial and error, it worked! It recovered my blog.rtf file and I was saved.

The onscreen instructions could use improvement, with clearer explanations and mouse over descriptions. I tried recovering the file four times before succeeding. The numerous attempts were because I did not click the appropriate option at the correct time.

This software recovered my files, unlike another download which showed me the files existed, but demanded $40 to recover them. So if you're in a jam, you could do a lot worse than this free program, which also recovers Zip disk and hard drive files.
